Lazy-Liberals: definition, behavior, habitat, and opportunities for improvement

This post is inspired by Dharma (a Hindu doctrine) and by interactions on twitter with @RajivMessage (Shri Rajiv Malhotra) and @sirfAK (Shri Ajay Singh). We will be happy to provide customized personal advice on 'How to step out of Lazy-Liberalism'. This piece looks at the Liberal-Conservative dichotomy from the lens of Hindu philosophy, and defines the concept of Lazy-Liberal.

Liberal is used as a tag for someone that is open to a variety of ideas that may oppose his or her beliefs. However, over time and over-use the term has become a label for political distinctions. People are identified as Liberal in opposition to being Conservative.

The author does not identify as either liberal or conservative!

A liberal is meant to be open to receiving ideas that are contrary to her or his belief or belief-system. Yet, someone who accepts foreign ideas without understanding them, their foundation, their intent and their manifestations is merely being LAZY!

Definition

Hence the terms Lazy-Liberal or Auto-Liberal: Someone who does not question the beliefs that he or she may be absorbing, accepting or justifying. A Lazy-Liberal is not selective (विवेकहीन) and hence is on auto-pilot. The auto-pilot drives the individual on self-serving arrogance (अहंकार).

As there is a substantially large number of Lazy-Liberals, this has resulted in the liberal-choice or liberal-claim often being an arrogant false self-belief of superior choice or behavior. Resulting in the liberal falling in the trap that he or she claims is the Conservative-condition.

Behavior

Lazy-Liberals may be involved in activism that is often counter-productive. While their stated goals will be undeniably noble their modus operandi and real outcomes are dubious.

They campaign for causes that even a ten year-old will applaud. Who will not applaud human-rights, animal rights, environment protection, feminine equality, religious freedom, and peace. Yet, a lot of NGO's operating for these social causes are self-serving and dubious. Some NGO's have hidden agendas. The soldiers of these NGO's are unwitting Lazy-Liberals.

They often have comfortable lives, but circumstances may have resulted in weak self-respect. Their living standards allow them to ignore the vagaries and struggles of challenging lives. All challenges in their life are self-created. Sub-conscious realization of this state leads to reduction in self-respect leading to subliminal grief. Automatic Lazy-Liberalism is a short, one-shot, panacea to overcoming that grief.

Habitat

Lazy-Liberals are found in US, Canada, UK, and other parts of the world that have forcefully developed pockets of English-education-inspired-and-manipulated self-destruction. They have comfortable, secure lives. Their lives are on-auto. They have access to various time-killing facilities whose over-use leaves them with little time for contemplating their mental positions.

Opportunities for improvement

Lazy-Liberals need to take a pause and revisit their positions. Exercises for developing a tendency to question beliefs, improving self-respect, overcoming arrogance, developing respect for 'others', would likely help get rid of the Lazy tag. Stepping out of Lazy-Liberalism requires exploring foundations of ideas that he or she may be tempted to support mindlessly. You may contact me for further customized assistance in the matter.

Serving the world of on-auto pilots,
